I must admit I am obsessed with the new Queens of the Stone Age album, In Times New Roman. Aside from the fact that as a writer and designer the title appeals to me for all the usual ridculous nerdy reasons, this album is stupidly playable and has been kept on repeat in my house, my car, my office, on the train … for weeks now. One of the big stand-outs for me with this album is the clear influence of a certain Thin White Duke, with some beautiful Bowie-esque undertones permeating Josh Homme’s vocal goodness (my husband even thought we were listening to some long-lost Bowie song for a moment when I first played him In Times New Roman). This is of course backed by the instantly recognisable QOTSA signature growl of guitars, chest-thumping drums and soul-heartening bass lines to keep you company on those cold nights in space or wherever you happen to be. There is also a groove to this album that’ll keep those hips shaking. So our advice is, buy it now, listen to it loud. and you’ll be all the better for it.
