Making a Splash

David ‘Meggs’ Hooke is just one of those super cool kats who are an absolute delight to speak to. With an easy manner and a warm smile, he is a generous soul who patiently listens to everyone who attends his exhibitions and seeks him out to share their joy in his art before diving into a world of colour and layers of paint expertly slashed over each other in a science of visual trickery.

From humble beginnings as one of Melbourne’s talented graff artists making his mark as part of the outstanding and awesome Everfresh crew, his earlier works were inspired by monsters and heroes with bright splatters of reds and blues. Over time his style has morphed and transformed into it’s current iteration, something that calls to mind an ever-changing world influenced by the chaos of the elements. Paint flows like water around the immovable, warm colours inspire feelings of summer days or the golden sunsets of central Australia., and contrasting blues, teals and greens remind us of spring and the promise of new things.

From intimate exhibition spaces to public murals overwhelming in size and brilliance, no surface is safe from Meggs’ imagination and paint combo. Check out his website for more paint layered goodness.
